I bring a background of varied experiences to this race. As a CPA, I have the understanding to study and analyze the financial issues that are so important to the responsible conduct of our government.
Atypically, though, my degree was not in accounting, but rather in journalism/public relations. I am therefore a somewhat rare breed that can both “do numbers” and also communicate effectively.
I have always had a positive and inclusive attitude toward life. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, my free time as a high school student was spent in a group called Sing-Out Dallas. That was a group of kids from all across the area that performed the music of Up With People! The chorus of their signature song includes this idea that is right on: “If more people were for people, all people everywhere…”
Since that time, I’ve worked alongside homeowners who were building their new homes through Habitat for Humanity. And as a corporate controller with human resources responsibilities, I’ve advised employees on tax, budgeting and retirement savings issues.
Now that I have three young grandchildren, I’m more determined than ever to work to make this world a better place, for them and for all of us.
